The Amalfi Coast in 5 days 💚🤍❤️
To help you with your itinerary for your trip to the Amalfi Coast, I share here my detailed 5-day itinerary to discover it! I advise you to combine this destination with the city of Naples. It is clearly worth the visit!

The Amalfi Coast is the jewel of southern Italy. From Sorrento to Salerno, the Amalfi Coast is one of the most beautiful coasts in Italy and Europe and, without a doubt, the most beautiful in the world.
Below is an overview of our 5 days itinerary through the Amalfi Coast. The red dots are the places we were able to discover during this stay.
Things to know before going to the Amalfi Coast 🧐
| Rent a scooter. The best way to visit the coast is by scooter. This will be the easiest way to discover the coast, especially during summer. If you want to do it by car, it’s possible, but you will lose time parking and will have to pay a lot for parking. 🛵

Where we stayed on the Amalfi Coast? 🏠
We stayed in Sorrento for our 5 days on the Amalfi Coast. There are some reasons why we opted for Sorrento. The first reason is that Sorrento is the official starting point of the Amalfi Coast and the easiest town to reach. Sorrento is also much less expensive than the towns around the coast, and you will get more facilities for that price.
We enjoyed staying in Sorrento, we found the city very charming. If you are looking for a more luxurious vacation, you can also stay in Positano, but it will be much more expensive.
We stayed at Le Terrazze hotel, which is fantastic in terms of price/quality. We enjoyed the view from our room, the friendly staff, and the hotel facilities. At the hotel’s reception, they also have a big terrace where you can enjoy a sea view and a view over the Vesuvius Volcano.
The hotel is situated in the hills, about a 15-minute drive from the center of Sorrento, but they have daily shuttles every hour for free! The staff shared with us many tips for restaurants and activities. We recommend you that place.
5 days itinerary on the Amalfi Coast
Itinerary of day 1 – Sorrento
What to do in Sorrento? ✔️
Sorrento is the little Garden of Eden facing Capri. The city stands on a long cliff overlooking the waves of the Bay of Naples, leaning against the sides of the Sorrentine peninsula. This rugged mountain forms a rocky point that ends in beauty, facing the offshore island of Capri.
- Get lost in Sorrento’s little streets and walk to the Villa Comunale Garden, where you can enjoy a splendid view of the sea and Vesuvius.
- Taste some Limoncello shots in one of the numerous Limoncello stores.🍋
- Walk to ‘Il Vallone dei Mulini’, a deep mountain cleft from a volcanic eruption.
- Swim in the natural pool of Bagni della Regina Giovanna.
My restaurant recommendation in Sorrento 🍝
| La Grotelle, which is a farmhouse restaurant. The owner of our hotel recommended us that place, and is in my opinion the best restaurant we have done in Italy, but it is also one of the best I have ever done since now! The staff is amazing, and the food is awesome. Almost everything is homemade, and all the fruits and vegetables come from their garden.

Itinerary of day 2 – Positano
Positano is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful villages of the Amalfi Coast. You will need about 2 hours to visit the town. Get lost in Positano’s small alleys and reach Positano’s principal beach. Be prepared for a lot of steps!

| Fornillo beach
We recommend the Fornillo beach, just behind the corner of Positano. Fornillo Beach is the second-largest beach in Positano and can be reached on foot via a characteristic road that starts from the Spiaggia Grande di Positano or by sea starting from the same pier.
Note that there are a lot of stairs to reach the beach.
On the beach, there are some restaurants and bars.
We did not go to the main beach of Positano for various reasons. One reason is the price. The prices for a seat are much higher than for the Fornillo beach. There are around 25 euros for the Positano Grande beach and 15 euros for the Fornillo beach.
Itinerary of day 3 – Amalfi & Ravello
Amalfi
This is another beautiful town on the Amalfi Coast, where you can easily spend two more hours. It is the largest town along the coast and one of the most popular places to stay after Positano. We recommend getting lost in its little streets.
Tips in Amalfi ✔️
If you are looking for a small meal for lunch, we recommend you la Tramontina. It is a typical sandwich shop with local food.
Ravello
Ravello is another typical coastal town. It is a tiny village that sits back from the coast, perched at the top of a cliff overlooking the sea. To get there, you will pass into the hills of the coast, as it is a bit remote from the main road. We really enjoyed Ravello. It is much less crowded than the famous Amalfi and Positano towns.
What to do in Ravello?
| Villa Ruffolo
One of the things to do is to visit the Villa Ruffolo. The entrance is around 6 euro per person. The view and the garden are amazing. After the visit, you can enjoy a little break on a terrace on the Piazza of Ravello, the main square of Ravello.
Itinerary of day 4 – Capri
We planned a whole day in Capri and decided to do a boat excursion that the hotel recommended us.
The company is called Lubrense boat, which we highly recommend. It is a family company, the staff was kind, and on top of that we had a good explanation about the Capri during our boat trip.

The legend says that the relationship will last a lifetime if we kiss under the rock (I Faraglioni).
If you don’t want to take a boat tour, there are a few ways to get to Capri, but most involve taking a boat. You can hop on a ferry from Naples or Sorrento.
During the excursion, we stopped at several ‘Grottos’ like the ‘Grotta Verde’, the ‘Grotta Bianca’, ‘I Faraglioni‘, and of course the most famous one: the ‘Grotta Azzurra’, To visit the ‘Grotta Azzurra’, you will have to pay 14 euro per person only to enter the grotto and stay there 5 minutes.
After our boat tour, we finally stopped at the little port of Capri, which is called, Marina Piccola for about 4 hours free time. 1 or 2 hours more hours would have been better, because if you planned to go to Anacapri as well 4 hours is a bit of a rush. Here are some pictures of our boat tour. 😎
What to do in Capri?
- Walk around the little streets of Capri.
- Visit the Giardini di Augusto.
- Gaze Out with the Sphinx of the Villa San Michele.
- Visit Anacpari and take the Monte Solaro lift.
If you don’t love crowds and want to experience the more authentic side of the island, we suggest you visit Anacapri, which you can easily access by bus. There are buses every 15 minutes, and it takes about 10 minutes to get between the towns.
Once in Anacapri, you can take the chair lift of Monte Solaro to the top of the island. The price is around 12 euro up and down. Unfortunately, we did not have enough time for that.
When visiting Capri, a boat tour is a good way to explore the island fully. It allows you to see spots that you won’t see from above.
Other things to do on the Amalfi Coast
Things we did not plan on our Amalfi Coast itinerary, but wished to do if we had more time are:
- Just around Amalfi, you will find Atrani, a beautiful town to visit.
- From Sorento you can have a visit at the Vesuvius and Pompei.
- Visit the island of Procida and Ischia, situated around 40 min by boat from Naples.
