My ski trip in Switzerland: The 4 Valleys – Nendaz

End December 2020, we went on a ski trip in Switzerland for a week. We decided to mix some skiing days with some visits days, as I am not a big ski fan. We spent 5 days in the town of Nendaz and spent 2 days in Geneva to spend the New Year’s Eve. 🥳

Things to know before going on a ski trip to Switzerland

Keep in mind that Switzerland is very expensive for a lot of things such as food, ski passes, location material, gasoline, … 🤑

Another thing to know before travelling to Switzerland is, if you are traveling to Switzerland by car, you will need a sticker that you can buy directly at the Swiss border (40-5O Euros) valid for 1 year.

About Nendaz

Nendaz is located in the heart of the largest ski area in Switzerland, the 4 Valleys. Nendaz offers many summer and winter activities for nature lovers.

During our ski trip in Switzerland, and more precisely Nendaz, we booked a room in a chalet at the foot of the ski slopes. It was a nice accommodation, booked via booking.com. We decided to ski 3 days out of the 5 days. It gave us 2 days to explore the pretty area of the region.

Ski trip in Switzerland in the 4 valleys

The 4 Valleys is a ski area that covers the resorts of Verbier, Nendaz, Veysonnaz, Thyon, La Tzoumaz and Bruson; it is the largest linked ski area in Switzerland, the third in Europe, with over 410 km of slopes and ski routes, of which almost 200 km are of medium to very difficult. ‘The Mont-Fort‘, located in the center of the domain, rises to an altitude of 3,330 meters and offers a view of peaks such as the Matterhorn, the Grand Combin and the Mont Blanc. The ‘Mont Gelé‘ is known for its off-piste ski slopes.

Verbier ski station

On an evening, we decided to have a little getaway at the station of Verbier. Verbier is a fairly trendy and chic ski resort. A good budget is therefore necessary if you want to accommodate here.

Verbier is an Alpine village in Switzerland’s Valais Canton. It’s the gateway to the 4 Vallées ski area and is about 1-hour drive from Nendaz. We had dinner here and ate a delicious typical fondue.

When we were not skiing, we went for a day to Lac Blausee and had half a day to lac Léman.

Lake blaussee

To go to Blausee lake we drove about 2 hours and had to take the train with the car on it. The train ride lasts more or less 15 minutes. Passengers remain in their vehicles during the trip. It is called the ‘Lötschberg Car Train‘.

Blausee is a small lake, in Switzerland, in the Kander valley above Kandergrund at 887 meters, near the river Kander. There are hundreds of trout living there, and you can also see tree trunks on the bottom of the water. To get there, you will need to walk from the parking lot (paid) for less than 10 minutes.

The lake is considered one of the most beautiful in Switzerland, mainly because of its crystal-clear waters that come from underground sources. Unfortunately, the lake being beautiful, easy to access, and well laid out (restaurants, hotels, barbecue, etc.) is very popular, and it is therefore best to arrive early. Admission is also quite expensive, between 8 and 10 CHF in high season.

Lac Léman

Lake Geneva (or Lac Léman) is a crescent-shaped lake shared between France and Switzerland, and overlooked by the Alps. As the lake is huge, we walked around from Montreux city.

Montreux is a traditional resort town on Lake Geneva. Nestled between steep hills and the lakeside. I found that town very charming.

My Tips in Nendaz

• If you are looking for a typical Swiss restaurant, we suggest you ‘la Cabane’ situated in the center of Nendaz. The food was excellent!
• If you want to eat a delicious savory crêpe, ‘Espresso2go‘ is the place to be in the center of Nendaz.
• Looking for a spa time? Hotel ‘Nendaz 4 Vallées & Spa‘ is proposing access to the spa + spa treatments, even if you have not booked a room with them. The big plus in my opinion is their heated outdoor pool with a view over the city.
